The Greatest Expression of Love

“No one can show greater love than this, the giving of his life for his friends. John 15:13.” This is the greatest expression of love. The best means a person can demonstrate love is “giving his life for his friends.” This is what our Lord Jesus Christ did as he went to the cross. His death in self-giving discloses the intensity of his love. The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross is the ultimate sign of his love.

The giving of one’s life for the benefit of another is the highest expression of love. It is only because one shares the life of God that he is able to achieve this in his own life. Love is not just a topic to discuss during Passion Week. It is something we must practice every day. Jesus giving of his life is what changed the disciples so that they could give themselves.

Occasionally it is not easy for us to love others, not even some Christians. The sinful self may attempt to avow itself in resentment or a heartless spirit.

Other ways to express love that laying down one’s life are available. We can invest time and effort in the improvement of the lives of those we know and love. We can yield our own interests to accomplish the betterment of another person.

We can give of ourselves for the benefit of those who cannot care for themselves. With more and more elderly persons around us, we have more opportunity to meet the needs of these persons. We can give of ourselves in teaching and training others to be better equipped Christians. We simply have to be sensitive to the concerns of those with whom we come in contact. We can make an extra effort to make contact with persons whom we might not ordinarily encounter.

It is hard to show sacrificing love toward those who do not share our values. Our concern should be to assist them experience God’s love. We simply are not capable of loving others with the divine love of God in our own strength. We must rely on our union with Jesus Christ to enable us to love as he loved.

How to Cope with Sufferings?

The issue regarding the reason why suffering exists has challenged Christian believers. Several have attempted to express that most suffering is actually a result of sin. The Bible denies this particular basis statement simple because it is not accurate. Many great people suffer. As human beings we could never fully understand exactly why suffering exists. In the Bible we could observe how Job continued to serve God in the middle of suffering. He knows how to cope with sufferings.

REMEMBER GOD IS IN CONTROL

Job’s experiences illustrate which people can hold on to their own faith regardless of situations. He did not blame God for what happened to him. He acknowledged God’s sovereignty. He did not understand why all of this happened to him, yet he trusted the providence of God.

REMAIN FAITHFUL

Job’s belief in God remained firm in spite of almost all his personal tragedy, and that he was still blameless before God. Job’s loyalty shows that integrity could be preserved even in the midst of severe hardship. Although Job lost his family members as well as material possessions, he maintained his relationship with the God.

RECOGNIZE GOD’S PURPOSE

Job did not comprehend God’s purpose in permitting tragedy to hit him. Nonetheless, he trusted God. All of us usually do not often understand God’s purpose. We do not need to understand everything that happens to us. We need to believe in God in all that happens to us.

WHAT IS YOUR RESPONSE TO SUFFERINGS?

Think about a time when you experienced adversity. Maybe you lost a loved one in death, experienced financial reverses, lost a job, or perhaps had been disappointed by somebody you trusted. How did you respond to this kind of hardship? Did hardship improve or even challenge your faith? What difficulties have you encounter in coping with adversity? May the truths mentioned would certainly assist us in dealing with suffering.

God The Center of Life

God is the center of life. All things were created by Him and for Him. He is the main one trustworthy in life. Whenever Jesus Christ spoke regarding wealth in heaven, He obviously was not talking about money. He used the word to explain spiritual wealth. All of us accumulate spiritual wealth once we serve God of heaven. We simply cannot serve God right until all of us come to know Him.

Have you ever experienced losing valuable properties? Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ had advice for those who had lost their goods by means of robbery and other means. He said, “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:20-21, NIV).

You can see Jesus Christ recognized the particular stress brought on by robbery and also loss of property to avoid that stress. His solution is to set up your own priorities to ensure that every day life is not really focused in earthly things. He desires all of us to experience a central focus for a lifetime that is much more permanent compared to the things all of us possess. Read the rest of this entry »

Setting Priorities

God’s will for you this New Year is to know the principles in setting priorities.  Do you think God wants your mind so flooded with uncertainties & anxieties that you cannot think spiritual thoughts? Do you think He wants your calendar so crowded that you do not have time for the important things? What do you think God’s will is for you this year? Here are some things to think about in establishing priorities:

• GOD IS YOUR LIFE

When you start to determine priorities, decide just where God stands in your lifetime. So think about “Who or what is most important in my life?” And I am hoping that the answers will probably, “My relationship with God, through Jesus Christ, is most important to me.”If that’s the case, then put that at the very top list of priorities, & say, “This will affect my decisions, my scheduling, my relationship with others, & my whole outlook on life.”

• GROW IN FAITH
You must also schedule some definite time every day to pray and to study the Bible. Pray on your own and for your family members
• GIVE HIGH QUALITY TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS and for individuals surrounding you. Pray for your church and for your missionaries. Occasionally they really feel so alone and up to now away. You will by no means know simply how much your prayers means to them. But you will be blessed when you grow in your faith and rely upon the Lord.  Read the rest of this entry »

Learning from the Ant

The Bible specifically in the Book of Proverbs presents the ant as an example of one who acts wisely. In the other biblical reference to an ant (Proverbs 30:24-25), it is called tiny, but very smart. According to these Scripture verses, there are two characteristics of the ant that we can learn.

First, the ant works on the basis of the future and what will be needed then. Winter is coming, and summer is the time to get ready for the winter.

Second, the ant has self-discipline. Without any leader or authority guiding them, they go about their work industriously. They apparently work by choice because it is part of their character.

The ant’s action is contrasted brilliantly with the lazy person. The sluggard wants to sleep so much “poverty will attack him like an armed robber” (Proverbs 6:11). Unlike the ant, which is mentioned twice in the Book of Proverbs, sluggards or lazy persons are described in several places. They are always shown to be unwise persons. Read the rest of this entry »

Finding the Meaning in Life

What is the meaning of life? What does  life mean to you and me? What is important and satisfying to you? They say that this is the most asked question in life. King Solomon, the wisest man in the world gave most of his life trying to find the answer to the question. His book, Ecclesiastes mostly is his examination on the question, and his findings.

Looking back in his life Solomon was asking, “Who am I?” “Why am I here?” “Where am I going?” He begins this book by stating that all is empty, useless, without substance. Taking Solomon’s findings, we find out what is the meaning of life.

WISDOM

Solomon, who gave himself fully to seek out and search for wisdom, found that this pursuit was meaningless. No matter how brilliant you are, your brilliance will not give you the meaning of life. Let me point out that even if one cannot find the true meaning of life in education, an education is still important in life. In fact, we live in an exceedingly educated society and knowledge has flourished. We cannot deny that education is very important, but Solomon was pointing out that it can’t give meaning to life. Education can improve the quality of life, but, at the end of the day, it can’t make life worth living.

RICHES

Solomon has all the best of everything. He really was someone who had more money than he could spend. He can buy anything he wanted. According to him, riches don’t make you happy. You won’t be completed just because you have the best of everything. He even said that you cannot take your wealth with you in the grave. The mere accumulation of things will not and cannot provide meaning and purpose in life.
All the wealth that Solomon had, he still could only say “Meaningless, meaningless.” Read the rest of this entry »

How to Live Carefully?

When you enter the Christian life, you enter, not a playground, but a battleground. It’s a war. It is a spiritual war between you and the devil. There are great dangers exist on every side which requires total attention and living carefully. In Ephesians 5:15-17, the Apostle Paul then urges us: “Be very careful, then, how you live–not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” Here are some advice on how to live carefully:

BE WISE

Don’t walk as unwise people, but as wise. Be very careful, then how you live. Apostle Paul certainly understood the shortness of life! Therefore he lived in such a way that his life would count for something.

He didn’t waste life but he used life to bring glory to God. Life is short! The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 39:4 “Show me, O Lord, my life’s end & the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life” Life is very short. Some people waste it, several loan it to the devil, and a few actually give it back to God who owned it. How it is spent determines the satisfaction & significance of life. What is a Church?

THE CHURCH IDENTIFIED

There are many misconceptions about the church. Some people think that “church” is the building where believers meet. A church may meet in place made by human hands, but the church is much more than the building. What is a church? The Bible identified clearly that the Church is called “the body of Christ,” and the “household of Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:13, Hebrews 3:6) It is likened to a bride and a wife (Revelation 19:7-9, Ephesians 5:22-23). For that reason, it is evident that the Church of Jesus Christ is basically and primarily spiritual. It is a spiritual body, not a building or a human organization.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS OF A CHURCH

The Scriptures tell us requirements for a church. First, there must be personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. When Peter confessed that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the Living God, Jesus answered by promising to build His Church and even the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matthew 16:13-18). According to the New Testament a person who has recognized as Peter did, that

Jesus is the Christ, and who trust’s in Him by faith as Savior and Lord. Then, there must be at least two individuals that share that faith. One person cannot be a church, since a church is made up of “living stones” and is a body with “members” (1 Peter 2:5; 1 Corinthians 12:12). The third requirement of those who share a faith in Christ is that they commit themselves to Him and to each other. Without commitment and submission to Christ, who is the Head of the church, there can be no church.  Read the rest of this entry »

Keeping The Balance

There are five major areas of life that need to be kept in balance:

PERSONAL LIFE
We are to take care of our bodies, nurture our minds, develop our talents and love God and grow in the grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

OUR FAMILIES
We are to love and respect our spouse, discipline our children in the Lord, provide for our family materially, and promote a harmonious relationship in the home.

OUR WORK
We are to be excellent in what we do and work heartily for the Lord and not for men. Let Christ manifest in your workplace.

OUR COMMUNITY
We are to obey the law and government, contribute to the moral fiber of society, take care of God’s creation and advance biblical principles.

OUR CHURCH
We are to help those in need, not forsaking the fellowship with other Christians, developing and using the spiritual gifts for building up the church, and support the ministry financially.  Read the rest of this entry »
